2013 Ornament SAL - April

Well firstly, yay I actually completed this months ornament. I chose to stitch Santa Swirly Cone by Michelle Lutzen of Stitchy Kitty that was in issue 46 from November 2009 of The Gift of Stitching Magazine.

I stitched my Santa on Polstitches Fields of Green jobelan.

I am really pleased with the result, I will finish it off later in the year ready for my tree in December.

Bye for now

Bringing my Blog up to date.

What follows is a photo record of what I have been up to over the last couple of weeks. You will see I am a bit all over the place, but I am currently just doing as I  fancy. Will try and get back on track as  from May 6th onwards.

Firstly the crochet Granny Squares I have been doing- using Stylecraft Special DK. I have not done any for over a week now, but will return to these soon and I will attempt to get 1 done every couple of days. It has taken me 15 years to learn to do it and a little time to create a blanket will not matter.
The Joan Elliott Peacock, I did do a little more on it before putting it away for awhile.
Next I finished a card as part of the FWC Card Exchange. This time the theme was animal cards so I stitched a stag.
I then dragged out a Prairie Schooler design I had started some time ago. It is January. Below is my starting point and how much I got done.
The next thing I undertook was to stitch a patchwork square that was in Issue 204 of Mary Hickmott's New Stitches magazine. The original design used Anchor Multicolour thread I converted it to the nearest DMC Color Variations thread and I am really pleased with the result.
I then decided to sort out my Santa for this months ornament SAL not having completed last months. I chose this cute Santa cone from an old issue of The Gift of Stitching digital magazine.

After waiting for 8 weeks my Needle Needs Complete Workstation 1 arrived that is the Necessaire Floor stand and the Millennium Frame with two bar lengths of 20 inches and 12 inches. It was worth the weight the frame holds the fabric lovely and tight.
I then agreed to take part in the What's App weeklong SAL and so decided to work on a different sampler. That was the Paws and Claws Sampler by Long Dog Samplers and originally published in The Gift of Stitching digital magazine.
Sorry the second photo not so good, poor lighting.

I have also started work on the Spring Butterfly Chart from AAN designs that is in the Mar/Apr issue of Just Cross Stitch magazine. I am stitching it on Polstitches Blue Moon Jobelan using the recommended DMC threads

again apologies for the poor photo but below is my progress so far

Finally not a stitchy thing but a flower. My Mum gave me a cutting of a wallflower that I bought her a couple of years ago and it is now in bloom. I think it is really pretty.

I am now going back to the Isle of Wight for my Father's funeral and when I return I hope that I will be blogging more regularly and leaving comments on the blogs I follow.

Bye for now

RIP Dad

In a previous post I mentioned that I had gone home to visit my Dad who had been in hospital. Once I returned to my home he got readmitted and sadly passed away in the early hours of this morning. Needless to say I am so glad I went home when I did and am currently very sad. I will miss him greatly he was a colourful character to say the least.

May you Rest in Peace Dad xxx

Oh Um a New Cross Stitch Start and More Crochet !!

In the last couple of weeks my stitching mojo has got up and left me and although I have tried to do some I have struggled. Then on Tuesday I saw a wonderful finish of Joan Elliott's Swirly Peacock design on Facebook and I thought about it and knew I had some fabric which I thought it could look good on. So I got the pattern from my Joan Elliott folder and then went through my floss spares boxes and what do you know I had all the DMC bar one to do the design. So you've guessed it I hemmed my fabric put it on my R & R frame and made a start.

Now you may be asking what about the Stitching Plan I wrote about in a previous post, well I will be returning to this as soon as my metallic thread arrives that I  need to use on Chrysanthemum Fairy as I would like to complete the pages beading, backstitches and metallics before moving on to the next page, I contacted my supplier yesterday and they are expecting a delivery of the Kreinik next week. So come Mid April I will be returning to the plan and will fit this one in as an extra
Whilst I was working on this I had a knock on the door and a big packet of yarn had arrived. My order from Deramores for the Stylecraft Special DK yarn pack.
Initially I had intended only using the pink and purple shades to make my crochet bedspread but then realised that would mean half the pack would not get used. So what I now intend to do is always have the 5th and final round of each square in Plum the shade that is top left in my photo above. Then what I intend to do is remove the first colour and add in a new shade so that all colours get used. You should be able to see what I mean from the photos below.

Mainly Crochet

Since I wrote my last proper post, (not the Ornament SAL one), I have done very little stitching, although I did finish the Margaret Sherry card to send in the FWC Card Exchange to Louise Braddock, who requested cards suitable for children.

I made a little more progress on the Polstitches Hardanger SAL, I am on Week 3 and managed about a quarter of what needs doing. I now have the final weeks instructions, the scary cutting bit and hopefully will get around to completing Weeks 3 and 4 later this week or early next.
So that is all the stitching I have done since my last post. I have been a bit absorbed with Crochet now that I have finally cracked it. Back in January 2011 I purchased Crochet Unravelled by Claire Bojczuk as it had left handed instructions as well as the usual right handed ones. Since that time on and off I had tried to do a granny square but just could not get past round 2 with any success. I then found a different style of Granny on a blog which was successful for me, and was in a previous post, but not one to be thwarted by something, I persevered and have now successfully done the Granny from this book.
and here are a few more Grannies that I have done since
The final picture above will be a lap quilt for me I bought some Sirdar Crofter DK some years ago to knit a jumper but the pattern was too difficult for  me so I am using it up on this. The yarn has a lovely soft feel to it. It is a combination of Acrylic, Cotton and Wool and I love the colourway. This one is shade 059 Rambler Rose.

I have also ordered this pack of yarn from Deramores to make a granny square bedspread it is the  Stylecraft Special DK Colour Pack.

So that is all the crafting I have done. Since my last post I have also done the following: -

Baked a Carrot Cake with Orange Frosting using my new Kenwood Food Mixer

Went to Coventry for my daughters open day at the University, she is hoping to go there in the Autumn to study Geography with Natural Hazards. Photo below is of Tom outside the bombed out old Cathedral, it was very cold and snowy the day we went.
and Tom has just finished his current term at college and came home with this wonderful sand casting of his hand holding some pens

As my Dad has been unwell we took a short break home to the Isle of Wight to go see him, he isn't too well sadly but will see the specialist this week, they now seem to think it could be a pneumonia linked TB that is causing his breathing difficulties.

Below are photos of us getting on the chain ferry from East to West Cowes, I think for a two minute journey it must be one of the most expensive pieces of water at £2 a crossing now. And a photo of me with my Dad's cute dog Nipper, for a terrier he has the loveliest  of temperaments.

Finally we came back home and on Easter Sunday took our dog for a walk on the common where there was some sort of Kite activity taking place.
