Stitching Update End of August 2013 and a note on my Challenges

Hi Blogger Friends,

Well I have not had time to do much on my blog lately. But as I do  not want it to go to awry I am posting some photos of the stitching I have done over the last few weeks since my last blog post.

As for my challenges they are pretty much as they were. The things I was managing to do I have maintained. Next week I will hopefully have the time to post a proper update of where I am on those.

Firstly Pansy has been put  away for a little while. I am hoping to come back to her before the end of the year but I have run out of one of the metallic threads and do not want to place an order for just that, so will wait until I need a few other pieces before continuing.

The photo below is my work to date on How Does Your Garden Grow by Papillon Creations. I have a little more work to do on Part 11 before moving on to the final part and the remainder of beading. I am really very pleased at how this is turning out.
The second photo is of the Christmas Ornament I have done for this month and because I so hated the metallic thread I was using to do a Santa one I have abandoned it and instead stitched this quick and easy Tartan ornament from the latest issue of New Stitches Magazine.
I have also managed to do one more days work on Scottish Garden the blackwork piece I have been working on from Just A Moment. I am really enjoying working  on this. It is very relaxing stitching.
The only other real stitching I have done since my last post is to make a start on the Blackbird Designs Violet's Blue. I am using DMC threads and Polstitches 28ct Dreamscape

and this is my progress so far
I apologise for the slightly blurred photo. I will continue with this project once How Does Your Garden Grow is completed - it will become my Sampler Wednesday project then.

Well that is all for now. I will try and keep on top  of this blogging lark, sometimes it is not easy finding the time and sorting the photos etc, but I will try.

Bye for now

52 Weeks - 52 Things Week 6 plus Stitching Update.

Hi Blogger Friends,

Well firstly, I am a day late with my update, I was too tired yesterday to sort it all out, but here it is now.

52 Weeks - 52 Things Week 6

I still have not purchased any books (6/52)

From the books I was reading I abandoned Gone Girl for the time being, I just could not get into it and it was a library loan that did not have long left on its issue, so I will probably try this one again later in the year.

I finished reading A Light Between Oceans (2/52) and continued reading Virgin Widow.

I also finished reading the Non Fiction book the 5:2 Diet (3/12). I will not be following this diet but it was an interesting read.

I continued listening to Dragonfly in Amber as my audio book. As it is very long I will probably be listening to it for a few weeks yet.

In the last week I have started reading three books. Firstly A Room Full of Bones by Elly Griffiths. This is the fourth book in a series about a forensic archaeologist called Ruth Galloway. They are crime novels and I have read the previous three which I enjoyed, so I am hopeful I will enjoy this one too.

I also started the first book in a trilogy of young adult novels called Switched by Amanda Hocking. This book I purchased last year because I liked the cover art. Well so far I am enjoying it and comparing to the only other series of young adult books I have read that would be Twilight, at least I am able to engage with the main character I really did not care for Bella in Twilight, whereas Wendy so far hasn't annoyed me.

Finally I have started one of my Kindle freebie downloads and this one is called Ravenscraig by Sandi Krawchenko Altner.

I have continued to read the Bible every day (6/52)

Another week where I have not managed to achieve any of my challenges. I also stated last week that I was going Facebook free from the 12th August, well it will actually be from 1st September until 1st November as I have a few things I am involved with on Facebook and need to see them through before I can disappear for a couple of months.

Still have not added to my Cross Stitch stash - (6/52)

No Magazines purchased (6/52)

Did 3 Granny Squares (in Stitching Update)

Vegetarian day was Friday (5/52)

Well this challenge seems non existent. I did manage an hour in the garden this week end mowing and just tidying up, but my plan to actually make something of my garden isn't happening as yet.

I lost 6.2lbs in the last week, so I am really quite pleased with that, a little closer to my first target weight of 167lbs.

No Chocolate (6/52)
8 Glasses of Water per day (6/52)

My nails are still not bitten (6/52)
I have journaled every day (6/52)
I have decluttered my stash and now have sorted out what I am going to sell and what I will give away or dump.
I have kept Loubie's Lot up to date with at least a weekly post, I think this is the third in the last week (6/52)

Stitching Update

I finished my final card in the FWC Card Exchange, below is the result
On Friday night I returned to my Scottish Garden Blackwork project and below is where I got to
I got a couple of hours work done on Pansy Pixie, I am still hopeful that I will get her completed before the end of August 2013.
I also dragged out the Historic Forest Sampler by New Stitches from my UFO pile. Below are my starting point and where I am after two evenings working on it. Really enjoying doing this one as there are lots of blocks of colour, so it makes for easier stitching.

And finally here are the three Granny squares I have crocheted in the last week
Well that is is for this weeks update. I am now working on my stitching plan and as you can probably tell I have already added an extra project to this as I will continue to work on Historic Forest when I do not feel like working on the other projects I listed in the Stitching Plan I posted last week.

Bye for now

My New Stitching Plan from Now until January 2014

Hi Blogger Friends,

I have been getting a little overwhelmed by the amount of UFO's and WIP's that I have, so decided I  needed to pick a few and concentrate on them.

Below you will find my stitching plan for the next few months. At the end of January 2014 I will assess where I am and decide if this system works for me. This plan is starting on the 12th August 2013.

I have two main projects I would like to complete this month they are Pansy by Nora Corbett that was the latest Polstitches SAL and the Hardanger project which was the previous Polstitches SAL from earlier this year. Below are where I am at with both projects.

In September I aim to complete the Roll Your Own 2013 Mandala project by Ink Circles and  the Little House Needleworks project The Rain FellBelow again are photos of where I am with these

In October I will be working on the Nora Corbett Halloween Fairy - Trick or Treat that was in one of the American Needlecraft Magazines. My progress to date is below

I will work on the Lavender and Lace Celtic Autumn in the alternate colourway in November. I don't expect to complete this but do hope to make some good progress. Below is where I will be starting from.

In December I am going to spend my time completing the Papa Noel Ornament by Faby Reilly that I started earlier this year as one of my Ornaments for the 2013 Ornament SAL. I will also make up all the other pieces of stitching I have done in this SAL into ornaments to go on my tree in December. Below is my starting point

As it is January I will work on Mirabilia January Garnet Fairy. Again I doubt I will complete this in one month, but I intend to give it a good go. Starting point for this project is below.

The above are the main projects I will be working on but so that I do not get bored I will also work on the following projects :-

Sampler Wednesdays
The first project I will attempt to complete by stitching on every Wednesday beginning the 14th August 2013 is How Does Your Garden Grow which was a SAL a couple of years ago from Papillon Creations. Below is my starting point
And as I anticipate completing this one within the weeks available from now until the end of January 2014, I will then move on to Martha Jones 1792 from European Reproduction Samplers. Progress so far is below
Friday Night is Blackwork Night

I will be working on Just a Moment's Scottish Garden every Friday Night. I may get this completed in the time available and if so I will then move on to Welsh Garden by the same company. Photo's of the completed design and my progress so far plus what the Welsh Garden looks like.
Strictly Come Dancing - Saturday and Sunday

Around about Mid September until Christmas on UK television we have the Strictly Come Dancing competition where celebrities pair up with professional ballroom dancers and each week someone is eliminated until a winner is chosen at the end. I believe in most other countries it is called Dancing with the Stars. Anyway to get to the point I have two Heritage Crafts John Clayton Dancers in progress so I intend to work on one of these on Saturday and the other one on Sunday whilst this programme is airing. Below is where I am starting from on both these projects.

The only other projects to be worked on are the remaining ornaments for the Ornament SAL 2013. My current one for August being this metallic santa on black aida. I have not decided on my projects for September through to December yet, only that they will be Santas.

So this is the plan for the coming months. This time I do intend to stick to it. So wish me luck for lots of great stitching and progress on these projects. Hopefully I will have a few completions by the end of January 2014.

Well that's it for this post.

Bye for now

TUSAL 2013 - August's Report

Hi Blogger Friends,

Below is this months photo update of my Kilner jar containing my ORTS.

Have not done as much stitching in the last month as I would have hoped, but I did go away for a week and also it has been quite hot so stitching time has been reduced. As you can see my Kilner jar is being protected by my big Moomin.

52 Weeks - 52 Things Week 5 plus Stitching Update

Hi Blogger Friends,

Below is my weekly update on my challenges I have set myself for the coming year. Some as you will see are going really well, others are yet to get off the ground and some I don't seem to be achieving at all. But that is part of the fun of doing it and to be honest I am doing better than I thought I would so far.

Still no books purchased (5/52)
Finished reading the Summer Queen by Elizabeth Chadwick. The first in a trilogy of books about Eleanor of Aquitaine. I did enjoy it but am really looking forward to the next one as this deal with her marriage to Henry II. (1/52)
I am currently still reading The Light Between Oceans and The Virgin Widow and have now also started on Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn (it's a library loan so have not got much time left).

I finished reading the Non-Fiction book Cherry Cake and Ginger Beer by  Jane Brocket (2/12). Essentially a cook book but filled with lovely nostalgia of a lot of books I read as a child. Really recommend this one. Loved it.

I have started reading the 5:2 Diet by Kate Harrison. I purchased this book on Kindle back in December when it was first published and had not given it much thought since, it was on offer. Anyway my husband went to his doctors the other day and she suggested he give it a go as he had successfully lost weight before on quite a low calorie diet. With this you basically eat normally 5 days a week and eat a restricted calorie intake on 2 days around about the 500 calorie mark for women. I am about a quarter of the way through the book at the moment and it does seem quite interesting. I am still undecided as to whether I will give it a go or not.

I finished listening to the audio book of Outlander by Diana Gabaldon (2/12) and have now started listening to the next in the series Dragonfly in Amber. I love this series of books and Jamie Fraser is my book hero - if only a real version existed :-)

I have continued reading The Bible every day (5/52)

I have not met any of my challenges this week. That said I have decided to take a 50 day break from Facebook starting the 12th August 2013, just to try and get a few things done. As much as I love seeing what is going on out there, it does waste my time. Last year I took a break for all of November and after the first few days I did not miss it. Who knows what I will get done in that time, hopefully plenty.

No Stash purchased (5/52)
No Magazines purchased (5/52)
I did a couple of rounds on  my crochet lap blanket. Photo in stitching update at the end.

My Veggie day was Monday (4/52)

Nothing done here !!

Did my monthly weigh in and body fat measurement at Boots (2/12). I did have a loss which was a surprise as my new health kick has not got off to the best of starts. Anyway I lost 2lbs and more importantly I think 2% body fat.

Still had no chocolate (5/52)

Did not manage my 10,000 steps 5 days a week this week. I currently have my Mum staying and she cannot do that level of walking, so I will get back on to this one from the 12th August 2013.

8 glasses of water drunk each day (5/52)

Another £2 to go in my Cow piggy bank so that total is now £42
This week there was  68 pence in shrapnel so the Pig piggy bank now has £4.13 in it.

I still have not bitten my nails although I did have to trim them as they have become brittle and flaky and to be honest I prefer them a bit shorter (5/52)

I went on the bus to Gloucester, the journey took me about an hour each way and cost £6.30 return, so I would not be doing it that often. I would choose one of the hottest days of the year and the bus was packed as I managed to pick the first one where the OAP's can use their bus passes for free travel. I had a good couple of hours there and then got the same bus home. Next time I do this I will get on the pre 9.30 am bus so it isn't so crowded. I am glad I did it finally venturing a bit further from home. (1/12)

I have continued journaling each day (5/52)

I have kept Loubie's Lot up to date with at least a weekly post (5/52)

The first thing I managed to do was complete stitching the card for the FWC Card Exchange cute theme.
I decided I wanted to have a bit of blackwork in my stitching workload so started on Just a Moment Blackwork Gardens, the one I am working on is the Scottish Garden, I already completed the English Garden earlier in the year and have the Welsh and Irish charts in my stash. This is worked on 16ct white aida. I have decided to make Friday nights my blackwork time and below is my progress so far.

I made a little progress on Pansy this week. I am hoping to have a better update next week.
As stated earlier I have done a little more on my crochet lap blanket. It is growing and I am hopeful I will complete it before the winter arrives.
I have made a start on my August Santa Ornament for the 2013 Ornament SAL. This time I have chosen to work in metallic silver thread on black aida. The design will be of Santa in his sleigh with his reindeer. The thread I am using is Madeira metallic and I do not like it, but I will persevere and complete it.
Finally I have made a start on the final card in the current round of the FWC Card Exchange. This time the theme is cards suitable for 4-5 year old boys or girls. I have chosen to stitch this cute duck card and the photo also shows my progress so far.

So that is where I have got to this week.

Until next time

Bye for now

Lisa :-)

19th March 2018 Update

Hi Blogger Friends, Well here is my first report since changing to my new plan on the 12th March 2018 Joan Elliott - Enchanting Auro...
