Sampler Wednesday - Martha Jones 1792 - Update 7

I managed to get a little more done this week, completing the last flower on the left border and working on the big bird in the centre of page 2 of the design. I could not continue with border work as I have run out of 371 which is heavily used in the border area. I did also do my first lot of 1 over 1 work in the name Adam. The A being regular cross stitch and the remaining letters in 1 over 1, which although I have no difficulty doing it does strain the eyes a bit. Overall I am pleased with this weeks progress.

2013 Ornament SAL - January

My January finish for this SAL is from the Prairie Schooler Chart Book Snowy Nights. I stitched it on 32ct Lambswool using the recommended DMC floss. I completed this design on 26th January. I have not yet made it up. This I will do during my rotation break week in February.

Passione Ricamo Fairy Mystery SAL Weekend Rotation Update 2

This weekend I have been working on the Passione Ricamo Fairy Mystery SAL. I am still on part one. Below is a photo of my starting point.

Here is where I got to on Saturday

Finally this is where I managed to get to on Sunday. I did not quite manage to get part one done, just a bit of bead work to go. Also the border around the central picture is in E898 DMC metallic and not the recommended PB55. I thought I had all the Rainbow Gallery thread I needed for this project only to discover I did not have the thread required for backstitch. This is the nearest to the recommended that I had in my stash, so it will have to do.

Fabric is Polstitches 28ct Soft Clouds Jobelan.

Pink Cinderella update Jan 25th 2013

This week was my rotation work on Joan Elliott's Cinderella the Pink Version. I have been working on the steps area down from the palace using my changed colour palette but was not happy with how it was looking so frogged all the lilac/purple I had stitched and then restarted putting in the more lilacy/blue colours from the original design colour palette as it blends better with the bluey/greys that are already in the steps and palace. I posted a photo the other day in my post Blogging is Fun of where I had got to before 'frogging'. Below is where I am now, sadly I did not get to complete this area as I had hoped as I have been experiencing headaches this week and that has limited my stitching time.

Sampler Wednesday - Martha Jones 1792 Update 6

On Wednesday I did work on my Martha Jones sampler. I did not get a great deal done as I had a headache, but in the photo below it is the two flowers in the border bottom left that I worked.

I have used 28ct Antique Ivory Cashel Linen and DMC threads.

Blogging is Fun, A Bit of Stitching and another Birthday Card

I am finally beginning to understand how to blog better. Firstly I must apologise to all those who have left me comments to which I do always reply, but until today did not realise how I could get your blog addy's. Anyway I have finally sussed it out so if you have left me a comment and have a blog I am now following you and will hopefully be able to add my comments to all your lovely work. Now that I am posting regularly I feel I am beginning to get the hang of it.

Since Monday I have been working mainly on Joan Elliott's Cinderella which was in my last post. I have been stitching the area that leads down from the Palace and because I am using the changed colour scheme from blue to pink I did not twig that I needed to use the original colours for this area. The Bluey/grey stitching is fine as that is in the original, so not all my work this week will be ripped out. Below is a photo of my progress and all the lilac/purply bits I am going to have to frog and restitch in the original colours. Oh well I won't be getting page one finished this week. Never mind :( !!!

I also received this lovely card from Judy in Australia with some lovely floss as part of the Hearts and Stitches FB group. Judy was a late joiner hence it coming quite a bit after the others.

Today is Sampler Wednesday so back to Martha today. Photo's and updates on this will be in my next post.

Back to Rotations plus an update of the last few days

So this week sees a return to me stitching on Joan Elliott's Cinderella. I have not worked on her since November 2012. I am doing the pink version and have made her a brunette. Below is this weeks starting point. It is stitched on Colorful Clouds Opal Linen from Polstitches.

On Thursday 17th January I started work on the ornament I am trying to complete for the Ornament SAL.

This is the chart I have chosen to work from. It is the Prairie Schooler Snowy Nights and I an doing the Ho Ho Ho Santa that is the centre ornament on the chart cover. I am stitching it on the recommended 32ct Lambswool and using DMC threads.

This is the progress I have made so far. Will have to get my fingers stitching if I want to get it completed by the 30th Jan, in time for the SAL update.

On Friday we had our first snowfall of the year and below are a couple of photos. I love snow the first day it lays after that I loathe it as it is so lethal and I tend to end up falling over which is no fun.

Waiting for Mr Tumnus ?

Later in the morning we took the dog on her daily walk and the two photos below are from that walk.

The slope down to the cycle path, I had to find fresh snow as it was quite slippy

Once on the path it was a lovely walk with Lily our dog.

As for stitching over the last few days well each day I have worked on my Valentines Exchange, but I cannot show that until Stephanie has received it so lets just say it is quite slow going but I think it will look good when completed.

Apart from the exchange project I also got January from Joan Elliott's Stitchers diary out again to work on. I am trying to complete this in January also.

This is what it should look like when it is complete

Progress as of 18th January 2013

On Saturday I finished off two small Christmas Ornaments that I have had as works in progress for a very long time. They are from the set of 12 Days of Christmas by Framecraft and are complete kits in themselves. I have done Days 1 and 2, so I only have the other 10 to stitch to have the complete set for the tree this year.

Framecraft - A Partridge in a Pear Tree. My second finish of the year.

Framecraft - Two Turtle Doves. My third finish of the year.

Finally yesterday I could not get motivated to stitch but in the evening I finally braved it and cut my Hardanger project that I started early last year.

Sweet Dreams Beginners Hardanger freebie project from Polstitches Designs website. Using my own colour scheme. This is before cutting.

This is it after cutting. I apologise for the poor photo the first one is more accurate for colours, just poor lighting again. Well I did the cutting and nothing has fallen apart so I can safely assume my Kloster Blocks were stitched correctly. I should have cut a bit closer to the stitching as I do have a few fluffy bits to tidy up.

My First Finish of 2013 and a few other things

I have finally completed a project. I did not think it would be so far into 2013.

It is the Forget me Not design by Beth Twist of Heartstring Samplery that was featured in an issue of The Gift of Stitching Magazine. This I was stitching as part of my 2013 January Challenge on Facebook. I used a piece of jobelan from a Polstitches grab bag and used Carrie's Creations threads my own selection that I believed to be closest to the original.

I also have made a few more starts that are not linked to challenges.

The first is for a Valentines exchange in the Hearts and Stitches FB group and the only photo that I will show of this until the recipient has received it is the floss and fabric. I am not going to show the design as I want it to be a surprise for Stephanie Slack.

The second is a small cushion from a book called Mini Cushions in Cross Stitch by Sheena Rogers. I have had this book for sometime and have wanted to make one for quite a while. So I thought why not. I had everything to hand for the design I chose apart from the dark green beads. I chose to stitch Orchid Delight, I am using DMC threads and stitching it on 14ct white aida.

This is the photo from the book of what it should look like when finished.

This is the progress I made on Sunday afternoon

Yesterday I received my fabric and creative grab bag from Polstitches. The fabric is from the New Year Custom Sale and is called Past Times, whether it becomes a main range fabric, we will have to see. I chose for a change to have a piece of Jobelan and not the Opal Linen that I usually go for. I also got a Creative Grab bag just to see what it contained. I am pleased with it contents.

This is my piece of 28 ct Past Times Jobelan from Polstitches

This is the Creative Grab Bag I received 4 different types of threads ribbon, braid, buttons and trimmings - Lovely :-)

Finally I have joined the 2013 Ornament SAL and have put the link on my blog. I have not yet decided what I am going to do for January but I do have until the end of the month to get it completed, it should not be too difficult as I have lots of ornament charts etc.

Just a Note on my Blogoversary

I have added a gadget for my Blogoversary. This is not from when I initially joined blogger that was back in 2009 but I was not sure when, so I have set my Blogoversary as the date I restarted this blog back in November 2012.

WIP/UFO Challenge 2013 - Winter Seasonal Sampler

The Winter Seasonal Sampler is my next and final WIP/UFO that I will be working on for this challenge. It is a kit from the Craft Collection and there are the three other seasons available which I do have in my stash but not started.

Below is a photo of my starting point

and below is the progress I made

I know it does not look very much but I did spend several hours stitching on this.

WIP/UFO Challenge 2013 - Elizabethan Peonies

My next WIP/UFO that I am working on as part of my wip challenge is Elizabethan Peonies by Purple Patch Design. This is a lovely colorful geometric design which Purple Patch is so good at. Below is the starting point for this project.

I just worked on the black areas and am quite pleased with the progress I made. When I next work on this one I will complete the black area.

WIP/UFO Challenge 2013 - English Garden Blackwork

The next WIP/UFO that I am going to work on is English Garden blackwork by Just A Moment. This is one of four design from Just a Moment the others being Irish, Scottish and Welsh, which I also have. They are lovely designs and go to show that Blackwork does not need to be stitch just in Black.

This is my starting point

It is stitched on 16 count Aida using Anchor threads in the following 4 colours - 118,134, 229 and 9046.

The photo below shows my progress

WIP/UFO Challenge 2013 - The Proposal

The second UFO that I am working on is a DMC kit called The Proposal. Below is a photo of my starting point.

As you can see from the photo below did not get a great deal done just a little stitching at the top right of the design. Wasn't really in a stitchy mood, but any progress is better than none.

WIP/ UFO Challenge 2013 - How Does Your Garden Grow

WIP/UFO Challenge 2013

As I have decided not to start back on my rotations until the 21st January and I have completed the starts in my Crazy Challenges this has left me time to progress the projects I have selected in my WIP/UFO Challenge.

So the first project in the WIP/UFO Challenge is How Does Your Garden Grow by Papillion Creations I am using DMC Color Variations for all the stitching in the following shades 4090, 4110, 4200, 4215 for the floral colours and 4045 and 4060 for the greens and Mill Hill Pot Pourri 00777 bead pack for the beading. All beading has been done on Parts 1 - 3. The photograph below shows parts 1 - 8 and Part 9 part worked.

I completed part 9 minus the beading section and also completed the first half of Part 10 which is the area down the left side. I really have enjoyed working on this design and trying out all the different speciality stitches.

I know the fabric looks quite yellow in this photo but to get a good colours for the stitching I had to use my stitching lamp to help in taking the photo. When I next work on this I will try and get a daylight photo.

The fabric is Enchanted Fabrics Summer Glade 28ct Monaco.

Hearts and Stitches FB Group

Today I received a card and floss from Heather Doherty

Crazy Challenges 2013 - Day Seven

When I originally joined the two Crazy 2013 Facebook groups I had intended on doing 15 new projects each per group, but then I decided to give myself a fighting chance and have reduced this to 7 per group.

So this is my last post on the new starts for 2013.

2013 Crazy January Challenge

For my final challenge for this group I decided to start work on this cute little design by Sue Hillis Designs - Not tonight Dear, I'm stitching. This chart was part of a belated birthday present from my husband. Further down in this post I will add a photo of the other charts I received from him.

I am stitching it on 28ct Dusky Rose Polstitches Jobelan using Polstitches Dragonfloss in Blood Ruby.

Here is my progress I stitched for under an hour on this project, I dont think it will take very long to complete.

CrosstitchCrazy 2013

My final challenge for this group is this design from Midsummer Night Designs and was in an issue of The Gift of Stitching Magazine. It is stitched on 28ct Antique Ivory Cashel Linen using the recommended Anchor threads.

This is my progress. I really like the pretty colours used in this project.

A Few More Birthday things

Yesterday I received another handmade card, this time from a FWC member Sheila who sent me a cute teddy decoupaged card

And alongside the Not tonight dear chart already featured in this post, I also received the three charts below from my husband as an extra birthday gift.

I have wanted the Stitching Mends Your Soul by Waxing Moon Designs chart for quite some time and have fallen in love with the Lizzie Kate boxer charts this one is a quote from Helen Keller and the chart in a cd case comes with the fabric. If I had all the Crescent Colors and GAST threads I would have started it, but I am missing several so it will have to wait until later in the year. The small Lizzie Kate chart I saw the other day stitched up and really liked it so that was an extra.

Returning to a Healthier Me :-)

Having succeeded in doing three weeks prior to the Christmas period without feeling deprived or headachey etc. I have since managed to completely undo any good I had achieved. Perhaps starting just before Christmas was setting myself up for failure, but Heigh-ho with both mine and Hubby's birthdays out of the way for another year, I can return to plan without any celebrations in the way to throw me off course.

So I got on the scales this morning and I am up to 12 stone 13 lbs, but at least I did not go over 13 stone mark.

My aim is to lose at least one stone by 1st April, that gives me 12 weeks, I think it is doable. I will then reassess. I am still going to go back to Boots and do both weight and fat monitoring on the 4th February. This is a week later than I originally intended but I am a week later starting back on the plan and I think I need at least 4 weeks to reduce both weight and fat content of my body. I am going to follow the WW Pro Points plan as I find this is the easiest one to follow when eating out etc.

I am also going to return to my 10,000 + steps a day, which I did do bar from Christmas week.

Crazy Challenges 2013 - Day Six

2013 Crazy January Challenge

Today I picked a big one Sabrina from Mirabilia.

This is what she should look like when complete but on the Pink fabric which is Polstitches 32ct Jobelan in Starburst. Having got the floss ready I have noticed that a couple of the pinks for the flowers may blend too much into the fabric and so when I get to them I may  have to select some floss a couple of shades darker.

This is the progress I made, loving this one already :-)

CrosstitchCrazy 2013

I picked a small Lanarte kit for this challenge. I have had it in my stash for sometime being gifted it in and exchange some years ago.

This is what the finished stitching should look like.

This is the little amount of stitching I got done on this one, but a start is a start !!

Crazy Challenges 2013 - Day Five

2013 Crazy Janaury Challenge

I picked a small Just Nan chart with embellishments to work on for my 5th new start of 2013.

This is Finchley's Summer House and the pink fabric is a piece of Polstitches opal linen from a grab bag which I think is Starburst.

This is the progress that I made. I think like most of Just Nan's designs it is really very pretty.

CrosstitchCrazy 2013

I chose to work on the Love design from a set of six Oriental designs that were in Cross Stitcher April 2003 and designed by Sheila Hudson. I have already stitched the Peace one late last year. It is stiched on white 14ct aida using DMC threads.

This is my progress. Sorry the photo isn't too good. This is what happens when I decide to use my phone in the living room at night even with the flash it does not really pick up the true colours etc, for instance the fabric is white. Hopefully when I return to this project I will get some better photos.

Hearts and Stitches FB Group

Today I received a Handmade card, a cross stitched ATC and some floss from Jennie Ford, all are lovely.
