Stitching Plan Week 3 - 2014

Hi Blogger Friends,

Sorry this post is a couple of days late but I have had a few computer issues.

So here is my update for Mon 20th - Sunday 26th January 2014

Elizabethan Sampler - went from this
to this
I will be returning to this project on the 10th February 2014.

Peacock - went from this
to this
I didn't get very much done as I had a really bad headache, so hopefully a better bit of progress this coming Saturday.

Winter Sunset - went from this
to this
I was pleased with the progress on this one - I think it is now beginning to take shape.

FWC Round Robins

My preparation for this robin went from this
to this

This is the end of my preparation and I posted it on to the first person on the robin list on Saturday 25th January 2014. Next weeks robin update will show my stitching on the first robin I have received.

Finally stitching wise I made my daughter a birthday card for her 19th birthday. She likes things oriental and I think she was quite pleased with this which was a cover kit from one of the magazines I think it was Cross Stitcher.

And this is the photo I posted of her on her birthday to FB I think she is about 3 or 4 in the photo and pretty much as always she is gurning :-)

I did not get any stitching done on either my Charity piece or my XS Smalls SAL piece - I am hoping I will do over this coming week.

The reason for lack of stitching was I got distracted by Crochet. A friend of mine posted a photo on FB that showed a C2C blanket in the making. Me being ignorant of what C2C was asked and she posted me the You Tube link. C2C for those that do not know is Corner to Corner.

This is the link I was using Corner to Corner Afghan Project and below is my efforts so far
It was great to be able to finally find a use for this Sirdar Chunky yarn. It was too expensive at £3.10 a 50g ball to discard (I had purchased it to make a Cardigan but the knitting pattern was too difficult for me). It will only be lap sized when finished but will be lovely and warm.

And here is a photo of me trying to work on this C2C project but being prevented by my Lily who wanted a fuss.

Using  The Crochet Crowd tutorials I also made the following dishcloth and kitchen scrubby. I have finally learnt how to work in rows.

I also made a knitted square using up odd DK yarn, and the pattern is from the book my start is on

This is my finished block and I know there is a mistake in my knitting as I did not follow the pattern correctly. But then this makes this square uniquely mine. I will make further blocks over the year and hopefully come December will have sufficient to sew up a blanket.
So this is all the crafting I managed to get done over the last week.

I also finished reading a really good book The Winter Folly by Lulu Taylor I will admit that is was the cover that got me reading the book, but I was pleasantly surprised as this author tends to write Bonk Buster style novels normally. It is set over two time periods present day and 60's/70's and features a house that has a folly in its grounds and something terrible that happened there. I won't say anything else about the plot as I am likely to spoil the story should you choose to read it. But it was definitely a 4 out of 5 stars for me and I will read future books by this author. I also know it must have been quite good as it was my bath book and I read it in only a couple of weeks which for me is good going.

Well that is it for this weeks posting.

Bye for now

Lisa :-)

Stitching Plan Week 2 - 2014

Hi Blogger Friends,

Well this week saw me lose two stitching days. I had to go to the hospital to have my left eye looked at with the view to having a couple of eyelashes removed that are growing down onto the eye due to me having had a mole partially removed about 16 years ago. So basically I got myself in a state the day before going to hospital and was so physically drained after the visit that I did no stitching for those two days. The result of the visit, as my eye wasn't currently irritated/infected which was the reason I went to doctors in the first place I will now go to a different hospital at the end of February to have the offending eyelashes removed by electrolysis and no doubt will get myself in a tizzy then too !

So below is what I have achieved

This weeks main project was Jane Greenoff's Elizabethan Sampler. I believe this is my oldest UFO having purchased and started it somewhere around the late 1990's.

This was my starting point
and this is my progress
I managed 8 hrs stitching this week I am pleased with my progress.

On Saturday I returned to working  on Peacock

My starting point this week was this
This is where I am at now

On Sunday I stitched again on Winter sunset below was my starting point
and here is where I got to
So these were my main projects for the week.

I also did some work on my charity square project for SFPSFC which I need to get finished and sent to them before April. I am stitching a Bambi below is my starting point and where I got to this week

This week I also sorted out what I am doing for my first project in this years Cross Stitch Smalls SAL 2014. I chose The Sampler Girl Christmas Ornament from the 2013 Just Cross Stitch Ornaments magazine. I am stitching it on a grab bag piece of linen from Crafty Kitten and am using floss I had in my stash plus the recommended DMC threads. Below is a photo of the project floss and fabric and then where I have got to this week.
Finally I continued with my outlining on the FWC RR that I need to get ready by the end of this coming week. Below is my progress

After completing my second week on my Stitching Plan for 2014 I have made a decision. As usual I think I have bitten off more than I can chew. Also my main aim for setting up a Stitching Plan was to reduce my UFO pile and also have more completions. With this in mind I am now going to do the following:-

Week 1 = Small Project UFO's as in album

Weeks 2 and 3 = Larger UFO currently this is Elizabethan Sampler and I will now continue with this each 2 +3 week until completed.

Week 4 = Cards as in album plus a general catch-up.

Saturdays New Start will be Peacock until completed
Sundays BAP will be Winter Sunset until completed

I will then move on to the next projects on the Stitching Plan list. Anything I do not get to this year I will move to next. My overall aim is not to have bags and boxes filled with half finished projects so I think this will be far more effective.

Well that's it for this week.

Bye for now

Stitching Plan Week 1 - 2014

Hi Blogger Friends,

Well the 6th January saw me start on my 52 Weeks of Stitching Madness a.k.a My Stitching Plan for 2014.

The first project to be embarked upon was Country Cottage Needleworks Cottage of the Month - February.

Below was my starting point. I gave myself Mon - Fri to work on it and I was very pleased to complete it on Thursday.

I used 28ct Lambswool linen and the recommended threads.

On Saturday I started on my first new start of 2014. It is a Peacock by Lesley Teare from an old issue of Cross Stitch Gold magazine. I am using Anchor threads, and I changed the DMC metallics to Rainbow Gallery as I find it easier to work with. I am stitching it on a piece of 28ct white Jobelan.
My aim was to do at least 3 hrs stitching which I did manage. I will be stitching on this for the remaining Saturdays in January and then on Saturdays in May and September. I am hoping that this will see some good  progress by the end of September.

On Sunday I started on one of my BAP's (Big-Ass Projects) that has been a UFO for awhile. The first one chosen was Winter Sunset by Maia. Again I wanted to do at least 3 hrs work and this was achieved. Also like my Saturday New Start , this will be worked on for the remaining Sundays of January and then again in May and September.

As well as working on these projects I continued with one of the Caroller cards I had been working on over Christmas and this is where this one currently is
I will work on this as and when I have a spare few minutes so it will probably be a couple of weeks before I get a chance to complete it.

I have been a member of the FWC (Friends Who Count) cross stitch club for many years but have not been that active of late. So I decided I would do a round robin this year. Well the other day I got the confirmation email that it was good to go and it will start on the 25th January. So I had to find something to stitch for it. As I had a nice piece of Primrose 14ct Aida I decided to stitch Ink Circles RYO Reloaded in one of the Sunflower options and DMC threads. I am stitching all the black outline and will let the other members fill in the colours.

Below is the colour palette and where I have got to so far.

And as if I did not have enough to be doing I also crocheted 6 Granny Squares for my blanket which will be completed one day.
Finally just checking my previous post I did not show my completion of the third Caroller card so here it is, this was completed prior to the 6th Jan, but after New Year.
So that is it for week one and it has been successful. Let's hope that week two goes the same way. My main project for the next two weeks is a sampler.

Bye for now

The last finishes of 2013

Hi Blogger Friends,

I had forgotten to post the last few cross stitch finishes of 2013 so here they are :-)

So I finally completed my 12 Days of Christmas ornaments from Framecraft and the last of those photos shows them made up, No. 12 is in the picture but I did not take a separate photo of it.

I stitched the cat card for my Sister whose birthday was at the end of December, it was a freebie cover kit.

I then stitched the two Caroller cards from Issue 93 Cross Stitch Card Shop designed by Durene Jones. There are 6 in total these are the first two.

And finally but certainly not least I stitched this little freebie dragon for my husbands birthday which is at the beginning of January. The design is by Dragon Dreams and I found it on her Facebook page.

Until next time and with my first report on my Stitching Plan 2014 -

Bye for now
